Letters From The Heart On My Wall
One of the happiest rooms in my home is in my master bathroom. Over the years, I have kept letters from People in my life that have touched my heart. I have them framed and read them often, moving the letters up high down to the bottom so that I can read them and remember the circumstances that occurred when they were written. The letter above was written by one of my best friends, Jill (I was a witness to her marriage in Lake Tahoe when she eloped; her children are two of my godchildren and are precious).
I have happy letters, sad letters and letters that mean so much to me...The last birthday card my mom and dad sent me together, a letter from Becca when she was in highschool, thanking me for helping her out with a problem in her family, a thank you note from one of my godchildren, Beth, who signed it "Snacky" (she does love a good french fry) and a note from my godchild Molly. who writes "My life has been more fun and full because of you. I believe my cup runneth over". I have the invitation from my surprise 40th birthday given to me by Janet and FJH which was "How Long Can She Milk A Birthday" with a cow on the front. The invitation was adorable and the party, oh the party, was the wedding reception I never had. What fun to be totally surprised.....
There's a letter from Jane's Aunt Murial (who I adore) thanking me for being in NewOrleans with Jane when her son died (as if I would have been anywhere else). Telling me she wished I were still in New Orleans and asking herself "what would Corky do to help Jane?" I have a letter from the guard's wife at Harry Gordon's Jewelry Store whose son was murdered, and she wrote "Herman and I often reread your words of comfort....." That's a real special one. There are letters from all my employers over the years (3 bosses) and dear friends.....The first time I met Win at work, I was crying over something and he scribbled "Life is one insane event after another". That's one of my favorites.
In this day of texts, and emails, I miss the written word. Keep your letters. They will show you the person you are.....and the wonderful friends of a lifetime.
